Announcing AdSkipper. Giving you back your 22 days.
On average, a one-hour primetime show has 18 minutes of advertisements. 18 minutes. The average American watches 34 hours of TV a week. That is 612 minutes of advertisements a week. Multiply that by a full year of TV watching and that equals around 31,824 minutes, or 22 days, of advertisements.
We want to give you your 22 days back.
Starting today, if you are a PlayOn/PlayLater bundle user, you have a really cool new feature to play around with called AdSkipper. AdSkipper gives you the ability to instantly skip the commercials on any stream recorded from ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC. Simply record the show on your PC via PlayLater, then stream through PlayOn onto your Roku, Chromecast or mobile device. When you play, AdSkipper gives you the option to instantly skip all commercials in the recorded program.
How this feature came about is a pretty cool story. In 2013, the Ninth Circuit court of appeals ruled skipping commercials is not a form of copyright infringement in the case of FOX v. Dish, making it legal for any video recorder to give its users the ability to skip commercials. Since the ruling, we are the first media streaming software to bring ad skipping to its users.
As most of you know, we’ve been at this for a long time. PlayOn was one of the earliest products in the market in 2003. For the past 11 years, we have been adapting and innovating in an industry with a continually evolving legal landscape, bringing you the most up-to-date features that new technologies can legally offer. AdSkipper brings us one-step closer to fulfilling this mission of revolutionizing TV to be user-centric and on-demand.
We hope you enjoy this new feature and do something extra special with your newfound 22 days.
